Zoo Visit
The hippoes, elephants, rhino, okapi and shetland cattle were all outside today for possibly the first time all winter.  The elephants were probably relieved to be out in the fresh air after spending the last few days inside the cement barn.   When we first arrived, Kallie was standing near the water, taking a drink.  Bette was in a corner, trying to dig up some mud but unsuccessfully.  Petal was standing near the barn door.

A docent was talking to customers about the elephants.  One customer exclaimed how glad she was that the elephants were still there.  The docent explained that the elephants still would be leaving in the spring, and the customer was very sad.  The docent didn't really explain why, except that the decision had already been made.  What a lost opportunity to educate on the needs of elephants!
