Ele's Angel Zoo Visit November 20, 2006
Dulary is reaching with her trunk to smell into the rhino exhibit next door. She has been in solitary confinement for almost 15 months. The Philly Zoo could have moved her to The Elephant Sanctuary last fall at no charge. Instead, the Philly Zoo spent over a year "exploring options" and then, after an enormous public outcry, the zoo finally announced in October that it will send Dulary to The Elephant Sanctuary. Unfortunately, because of changed circumstances over the past few months (8 additional elephants and the loss of a caregiver from a tragic accident) The Elephant Sanctuary now needs to hire additional caregivers before it can accept Dulary, so thanks to the zoo's delay, Dulary will have to spend another winter in isolation.
